Editing

Watch the following tutorials and practice with one of the projects you have started or with a new project you record. Take the time to practice and ask questions.

Apply Smartfocus to Zoom and Pan: Smartfocus will work better if you don't wave your mouse around when recording. You will get better at this as you do more recordings. This is one of the most effective things you can do to make your tutorials easier for your students to follow so take the time to learn and use this feature. Keyboard Shortcut Z to add a keyframe.

Cut Unwanted Video and Audio on the Timeline: Occasionally the phone will ring right in the middle of a recording and I need to cut it out. Watch this short tutorial and practice removing something from your project.

Add a Title Clip: Title clips can be a great addition to the beginning of a project, as the credits at the end or to se per ate multiple sections of your tutorial. I recommend setting the duration for three seconds.

Add a Transition: Transitions are nice to use if you insert title clips but I don't use them very often.

Callouts: I think Callouts can be a very effective teaching tool so I usually invest the time to add a few to each tutorial. Here are a couple tutorials for you to watch and apply.

Bonus Lessons
Before you dive into the next two lessons I want you to look at the time. Budget at least an hour to watch and practice the produce and share section of this workshop.

Adding Captioning: This is a hot new option in Camtasia 7 so there is an entire section in the Learning Center that covers this. If this sounds interesting to you or you know you will need to add captioning to your tutorials please checkout this section.

Add a Flash Quiz or Survey
Learn how to add a Flash Quiz or Survey to a video to test viewer’s knowledge or gain viewer feedback. You can include multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and short answer questions. Receive the quiz or survey results by e-mail or a SCORM-compliant LMS. *This tutorial is from version 5 but the only thing that I can see that has changed is that is it now on the insert tab. Just ask me if you can find where the new Quizzing button is.

What's Next: Now that you have edited your tutorial you will want to practice producing it and getting it online to share with others.
