MSHS Day of Silence Update
The Day of Silence protests outside of Mount Si High School occurred without incident Friday, April 25. "This was a lesson in freedom of expression and responding in a civil society," commented Principal Randy Taylor. "I am very proud of our students who expressed their varied opinions appropriately and respectfully within the school. We all need to listen and learn from our children."
At the start of school, about 75 parents stood with signs silently supporting GSA students and the Day of Silence activity. At around 10 a.m. approximately 200 protesters showed up on the sidewalk outside of the school, near the tennis courts. We appreciate the support offered by local law enforcement to encourage an orderly gathering.
Inside the school building, about 200 students participated in the Day of Silence. While taking a vow of silence, participants spoke only when called upon by their teachers. This was the third year that some students at Mount Si High School chose to participate with their silence.
