There is a new addition to the Mount Si science department and the school as a whole. Mount Si is now part of the WeatherNet network of over 140 Washington State and over 6000 nationwide reporting weather stations. We are directly affiliated now with KING5 Television and their weather department, providing them with a continual data feed from our rooftop weather station. In addition, this weather station is a wonderful asset to the teaching of meteorology, as well as cross-disciplinary for other teachers' instruction in the weather within their courses. This is being implemented through the use of an associated online curriculum for staff and student access at any time using the real-time data recorded from the weather station.
The basic WeatherNet Classroom Program is an Internet-based meteorological curriculum for high school lesson planning. This curriculum is multi-disciplinary in nature and aligned with National Education Standards for science, math, geography, and technology. Online training will be available to teachers in order to build skills in the usage of the program quickly. The materials are interactive and fun for students to use, where they will learn by using real-world data from the fully automated weather station installed at our school and from schools nationwide.
Computer graphics and animation will allow students to work with and print colorful maps and graphs as they analyze real-time data from a Digital Data Display continually updating information received from the school's weather station. As parents, you will be able to access this continual information from our weather station as long as you have access to a computer. You will be able to go to the following websites transmitting this information on an ongoing basis as it is relayed from the weather station directly:
